Fall 2014: The 1 %

The fashion industry is calling this the "New Normal." I call it "the-fashion-industry-has-no-imagination." In a rare display of practicality, designers showcased gorgeous, wearable, luxurious clothes and can find nothing more creative to call it than "normal."

I call this style "the 1%" because this clothing is meant to showcase the wealth, sophistication, and the impeccable taste of the upper classes. In times of great wealth disparity (see the 1980's), simple clothes in grey and taupe become hallmarks of the social and economic elite. Unfortunately, 99% of us cannot afford these clothes and another 47% want a government hand out of impeccably beautiful and tailored clothing. But fortunately for the 99%, this is one of the easiest trends to copy. Trip to Talbot's, anyone?
